Nora and I went to my father's hometown in Lockhart, Texas last week. It was her first time meeting my father's family. The first few days were pretty rough, we spent 6 hrs in the ER because Nora developed a fever of 103.5 (after she had been given Tylenol). They checked her over and determined it was a virus because she did not display any other signs of being sick (vomiting, diarrhea, stuffy nose, etc.) Thankfully, 24 hours later, she was fine. It just made for a rough few first days.
We had a great time seeing everyone. I have never seen my little girl sweat so much though. Within minutes of arriving at my Abuelita's house, she was a sopping, sticky mess. (Even more of a dirt magnet.) My Abuelita does NOT have (because she does not WANT) air conditioning.
I did a photo slideshow, with captions, but right now I'm too cheap to pay for this service, so the captions are not included. :( Sorry.
For those interested: The pictures of the downed tree limbs are from some high winds they sustained a few days earlier. The morning we arrived, my 73 year old Abuelita was out there with her chainsaw chopping away. I think in the first picture you'll see of her she is wearing a white collared shirt.
The pictures of guys on horses are my father and uncle. We were watching the "Chisholm Trail Roundup" Parade. At the end of the parade, anyone who wants to ride on horseback brings up the end of the parade. This little town is serious about their parades. We were sitting there for 2 hours waiting for the end!!!
After that are some pictures from our picnic and train ride at Zilker Park in Austin. We looked like a bunch of clowns with bright tongues and lips because we had snow cones while waiting for the train ride.
The last pictures are of my father and his Aunt Joaquina (Jackie). The portrait he is holding is a picture of his grandparents and great grand father!

Hoping Nora is feeling much perkier.
I would love you abuelita...she's my hero with that chainsaw!
Mia's 'uelita is pretty darn good with a shotgun, too! AND she makes the best tamales in the universe!
Loved the pics especially the one with Nora, Nano, and your dad walking. The pic of Nano and Nora kissing brought tears to my eyes. My all time favorite was your guitar playing that accompanied the slideshow. You sound so professional!
Charlotte, you are too sweet. However, you also tend to be mucho sarcastic at times, and I cannot tell the tone of your comment. Yes, I recorded myself playing guitar, while holding Nora on my hip as I fed her dinner, and changed her diaper! Nah, to clear it up for everyone else out there, that is not me playing the guitar. :)
Mia,
Maybe you should record some background music yourself -- you sounded pretty good when I last heard you play!
