Pumpkin Patch

The weekend before last we ventured out to a pumpkin patch. Grandpapa was in Bosnia at the time, but Grandmama came out with us to help Nora pick the perfect pumpkin. It was a beautiful day. Much nicer than 2 years ago when the ground was all soppy and muddy from melting snow!I'm sure the owners of the farm love all the little kids who pick up the pumpkins and throw them down on the ground. We had to scold her several times for doing this.

Here we are in our Barack Obama campaign t-shirts. I printed these fabric patches up and sewed them on some shirts for us. Every time we wear the shirts we get comments on them.

She insisted on pulling the wagon herself. She didn't get very far before she agreed to share the burden with Grandmama and Murphey. After the pumpkin patch we went out for a nice lunch in Boulder and then it was home to help Grandmama decorate for fall.

My friend Jessica gave Nora this chocolate pumpkin lollipop. Nora was so excited to wake up from her nap and eat it.

Her nap. Yes, her nap. Her naps have been tricky lately. One day recently she took forever to fall asleep (not too out of the ordinary for her, lately). I heard several bumps and bangs up in her room and then 10 minutes later it was quiet. I had already gone in several times to tell her to go to sleep, so once it was finally quiet I went in to check on her. This is what I found.
Let's pan out a little bit...She got out of bed, knocked her rocker ottoman over, opened her drawers, pulled out some bloomers, sheets, quilts, half pulled the bloomers on, and got back in bed and fell asleep.

And then there was the day that I decided it would be fun to make butternut squash ravioli! It was indeed, fun, but quite a process. Not a complete success, but not a total failure either. We have some strategies to make our next attempt more successful. I did a lot more than take the pictures, it just happens that I only have pictures of Murphey doing everything!!! Nora was napping for most of this adventure, but she woke up at the very end, so we gave her a turn with the pasta press. She made (and ate raw) spaghetti. After you roll out the thin sheets of pasta, you place one on this little tray that's like an ice cube tray with no bottom. you fill the little holes and then place another sheet of pasta on top, then roll over it with a rolling pin. The tray is shaped so that when you roll the rolling pin over it, it cuts out the individual raviolis.
The counter was slippery and it was easy to get a little too into the rolling pin part... Yep, that's a whole tray of ravioli's that fell off the counter. :) Poor Murphey...

I'm sorry I don't have an after picture, but they were pretty sorry looking. We ate the ones that did not explode in the boiling water (we think we rolled the pasta too thin.) Better luck next time!!

In spite of Nora's incredible screen presence, the award for best acting goes to Murphey for his portrait of loss & despair. Congratulations, Murphey!

That looks like it was a lot of fun but I would not like to have to clean up all the mess. Love the pictures of Nora's room. I came into alot of rooms that looked like that after nap times in my time with my children. I especially remember a time when Amy was very little and I found her with all of her babies and stuffed animals all diapered up to their heads with her pampers which in those days did not have removable tape.

Uh, Mike? I don't think that was acting..... Poor Murphey, if someone isn't throwing out his drippings for gravy (I still say Lily KNEW what she was doing), then his raviolis are tumbling to the floor. I can't wait to visit in December and help make ravioli! The pumpkin patch pix are wonderful. Where has our baby girl gone?? She looks so very grown up! I'll have to train her to come get in bed with me at 4am while I'm there..... 8-)

Her hair is getting so long! Great job on the shirts. Tha nap time pics are too funny. I swear Nora and Maddie are the same child. If I wasn't so fuming mad yesterday when I found her on top of the changing table with lotion all over her, I might have thought to take a picture! And do you know they have very yummy butternut squash ravioli at Costco right now? I had a tasty sample yesterday! Something tells me it's a lot easier to make!
