While You Were Out

This past weekend, while Murphey was in Virginia for his friend Eric's wedding, I decided to COMPLETELY re-decorate our bedroom. This room has been high on our list of things we'd like to change about this house, but we both knew it would be SUCH an undertaking that we just kinda ignored it. The people who lived here previously had an affinity for the color brown. I've slowly repainted things here and there and am in the process of transforming our house from looking like a cave to a home. :) Not only were they fond of brown, they were fond of painting CEILINGS brown! With the help of Charlotte, Ginger and Kim, I was able to complete this in the time Murphey was gone, from early Friday morning to late Sunday evening. I couldn't have done it without them. Thanks guys!! Charlotte and Nora played SO hard all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was great to be up in the room painting and just hear constant giggles and shrieks coming from downstairs. One of the games they played was "Sister Mary Elizabeth." I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

And onto the painting...
Lucky me, our bedroom ceiling is vaulted (I think that's the right word) to 12 feet!!! It took almost 4 coats of ceiling paint to cover the light toffee color. Painting vaulted ceilings SUCKS! My calves, abs, shoulders, neck, arms and jaw(?!?) hurt from straining to look up at the stupid ceiling and guide the pole and roller along the slopes. Shows how weak I am, I guess. The walls took 1 coat of primer and 1 coat of paint. The color is my favorite, Restoration Hardware's Silver Sage. Love that color.

I don't know, but if I had to choose between painting my room and doing 2 triathlons on consecutive days, without hesitation, I'd choose the two triathlons. Done deal.

Here's the before and after shots.

(And, no, I did not 'place' the brown kitty in the before shot and the white kitty in the after shot. They did that themselves, but I think it's freaking hilarious.)

I think Murphey was surprised by it. He was very tired from the weekend when he got in Sunday night so his reaction to it was a bit muted. That and one of the first things he noticed when walking in the room was this:
Late Saturday night, my paint tray decided to leap off the ladder and onto the floor. It actually looks a lot worse than this picture portrays. Fortunately, it's in the corner by the window, where we put a dog bed, so it will be covered up. I didn't bother cleaning it up for fear of making an even bigger mess. That and it was still pretty wet Sunday night, so I hadn't covered it yet

Ginger and I had to empty my closet because of the "openness" of the room, part of it had to be painted as well. My task this week is now to go through my clothes send what hasn't been worn since having Nora to goodwill and put the keepers back in the closet.

That being said, I love the new room and am so happy to be done with it!!

congrats! what an undertaking! It looks great from the pictures and I'm sure Murphey appreciates all the hard work.

And if he doesn't, there's a certain bed in the corner by the window which is far better than a certain house out in the yard! ;)

Your paint job definitely brightens the room. Of course, if Sister Mary Elizabeth had been on the job in that class room, the unruly young lady who painted outside of the lines could have wound up with her knuckles rapped with a ruler! (Ah, the memories of parochial school I dredge up from the dark recesses of my mind! Even so, I don't remember any nuns as cute as Sister Mary Elizabeth!)

Want to come paint my house? I don't have vaulted celings, but they are ugly popcorn. Your bedroom looks so much brighter.

Oh, I'm exhausted just looking at all your hard work. You know I LOVE silver sage and it looks beautiful with your furniture. Love the new comforter too. Don't cry over spilt paint :(
